Nursing Transition Model

Eligibility:

RNs graduating within 7 years from a  Maryland AD or diploma program that has been approved by the statewide validation committee or accredited by NLN, or RNs  graduating from an out-of-state NLN accredited program within the past 7 years.

RNs graduating more than 7 years ago or planning to take remaining general education credits at a community college

RNs graduating more than 7 years ago or out-of-state RNs graduating from a non-accredited program.  (All 3 transition courses must be completed before credits are awarded.  RNs must enter a BSN program within 2 years of completing transition courses)

Lower division non-nursing credits

30-40 general education and science credits transferred according to institutional policy

30-40 general education and science credits transferred according to institutional policy

30 credits awarded for completion of Social Science Concepts and Scientific Concepts transition courses.

Additional general education and science credits

30 credits (varies with BSN school)  - must be taken at a 4 year institution

30 credits (varies with BSN school) - may be taken at a community college or a university

30 credits (varies with BSN school) - may be taken at any college or university

Nursing credits

30 lower division nursing credits transferred according to institutional policy

30 upper division nursing credits awarded  upon successful completion of challenge exams

30 upper division credits awarded for completion of the Nursing Concepts transition course

Upper division nursing credits

30-34 credits completed at the selected public baccalaureate institution

30-34 credits completed at the selected public baccalaureate  institution

30-34 credits completed at the selected public baccalaureate institution
