The Tennessee Center for Nursing, Inc. (TCN) is a statewide non-profit 501[c]3 organization composed of public and private university educators, consumers and business representatives such as BlueCross and BlueShield of Tennessee (BCBS), policy makers and state regulatory boards such as State Senate, Tennessee Board of Nursing (TBON), Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR), Tennessee Department of Health (TDH), representatives of professional nursing organizations such as the Tennessee Association of Deans and Directors of Nursing Programs, the Tennessee Nurses Association (TNA), the Tennessee Organization of Nurse Executives (TONE), and other related healthcare agencies such as the Rural Health Association of Tennessee (RHAT), the Tennessee Hospital Association (THA) and the Tennessee Associaion of Homes and Services for the Aging (TNAHSA).
In 1996 this statewide consortium set out to accomlish five goals:
- to guide the ongoing development of an appropriate nursing work force
- conduct nursing work force analyses
- propose recommendations for nursing education and practice reform
- disseminate the findings and recommendations
- develop an ongoing system to address the nursing work force as related to the future health care needs of the residents of Tennessee.
TCN has since become Tennessee's state wide resource for nursing workforce data collection, analysis, and dissemination, and has made recommendations to and worked collaboratively with other state organizations.
