Susan R. Jacob PhD, RN

Executive Associate Dean and Professor
University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Nursing

Dr. Jacob received her baccalaureate degree in Nursing from West Virginia University; her Master of Science in Nursing with a Community Health Specialty from San Jose State University and her PhD from the University of Tennessee.

She has had both acute care and community clinical experience and was instrumental in the development of one of the first hospice programs in the country.

Dr. Jacob's research and publications have been focused in the areas of gerontology, home health delivery systems, hospice and grief and bereavement.

She is the co-author and co-editor of the nursing textbook "Contemporary Nursing: Issues, Trends and Management" that is in its 3rd edition.

Dr. Jacob is active in professional nursing organizations; holding leadership positions in the Tennessee Nurses Association, the American Nurses Association and Sigma Theta Tau International; she is also an evaluator for the Commission on Nursing Education.

Dr. Jacob's community service activities include providing bereavement support to individuals who have lost a loved one, organizing health promotion activities in her church and serving as a parish nurse.
