January 1, 2002 - The Tennessee Center for Nursing, Inc. maintained an office in Knoxville and began operating temporarily through Lincoln Memorial University. The Search Process continued as did the renovation of office space in the Cordell Hull Building, Nashville, for the TCN office.

June 1, 2002 - A fulltime Executive Director, Ann P. Duncan, MPH, RN, was employed and the TCN office was moved from Knoxville to Nashville.

 
The RN – BSN Articulation Study and Recommendations was completed and placed on the website; recommendations have been presented to the TN Board of Regents (TBR).
 
The LPN – RN Articulation Study was begun and a request for information has been sent to Deans and Directors of nursing program.
 
TCN reviewed research literature and identified proven effective strategies for improving recruitment and retention of nurses; TCN adopted and is promoting the Magnet Hospital concept in TN as our top recruitment and retention priority for acute care hospitals and long term care settings; TCN participated in a presentation regarding the Magnet Hospital concept during the 2002 Annual Convention of the TNA.
 
A comprehensive data base that can be used to identify nursing workforce issues, including nursing faculty and educational issues is being implemented:
   
RN and LPN licensure data base is being provided quarterly to TCN by the Department of health.
   
A doctoral student at ETSU is developing a universal reporting document that can be used by Schools of Nursing for various accreditation and regulatory purposes, so that completion of the one reporting document will fulfill all reporting requirements.
   
Health Care Facility data maintained by the Department of Health will comprise the third component of the comprehensive data base.
 
TCN provided data for the Board of Nursing regarding RN and LPN supply and vacancy rates for proposed new nursing programs, specific to the geographic region that the proposed program will serve.
 
The first phase of the recruitment campaign purchased from NC Center for Nursing has been implemented and plans are being made to implement the nex phase of the campaign.
 
The book, From Silence to Voice: What Nurses Know and Must Communicate to the Public, has been purchased and presented to each TCN Board and Board of Nursing member; the TCN is promoting the importance of each nurse in communicating with the public the role of nursing today in order to convey a more accurate and positive image of nursing.
 
TCN participated in the THEC/TBR Open Forum that developed recommendations regarding nursing workforce issues in TN; recommendations have now been approved and are available at the TBR link on the TCN web site.
 
TCN is a member of the Advisory Committee for the TN Hospital Association Center for Health Workforce Development, which recently approved funding for regional collaborations between hospitals and schools of nursing.
 
TCN was a member of the Middle TN Roundtable on Healthcare Workforce , sponsored by the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce; the final report has just been released.
 
TCN is an invited participant in Deans and Directors of Schools of Nursing meetings and TN Organization of Nurse Executives.
 
TCN participated in planning for the first national conference for state centers for nursing, to be held April 24-26, 2003in Raleigh, NC; TCN will be one of the presenters representing states that have established centers for nursing.
 
TCN Board of Directors engaged the Ingram Group to assist TCN in marketing strategies.
 
TCN in conjunction with UTK Community Health Research Group (CHRG) has developed an interactive nursing licensure database on the TCN website.
 
TCN offices relocated to 545 Mainstream Drive, Suite 406, Nashville, Tennessee 37228 on September 3, 2003.
 
TCN initiated a new minority recruitment campaign in consultation with Hall Communications.
 
During the summer of 2003 TCN was a steering committee member of the Johnson & Johnson Gala which was held in Nashville on January 22, 2004.
 
TCN co-sponsored a White Paper titled “Securing Tennessee’s Future: Increasing Nursing Education in Tennessee” with the Tennessee Independent Colleges & Universities Association (TICUA).
 
TCN developed a Tool Kit to be used to recruit high school student into nursing
